Course Description: Basic fundamentals of mechanical maintenance to troubleshoot, minimize, and prevent equipment breakdowns and lost production time.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Identify and repair all types of equipment problems in a variety of areas including power transmission types, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

Demonstrate the ability to assemble and align new equipment with the use of a myriad of hand tools and alignment equipment.

Identify bearing types and lubrication concepts.

Safely install, maintain, and troubleshoot belt drive systems.

Safely install, maintain, and troubleshoot chain drive systems

Demonstrate application for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting gear drive systems

Knowledge of preventive maintenance tasks for maintaining belts, chains, and gear systems.

Understands the causes and symptoms of bearing failure.

Demonstrate procedures for the removal and installation of bearings.

Demonstrate use of measuring tools such as tachometers, micrometers, dial indicators and calipers.

Demonstrate installation of multi-shaft systems using proper alignment techniques.

Knowledge of proper lubrication methods.

Knowledge of and proper installation of seals and packing used in an industrial setting.

Demonstrate safety techniques for rigging and installing mechanical equipment.

Know and select the proper fasteners required for an industrial project.
