IMA 3050 - Mechanical Fundamentals

Course Description: Provides instruction to hand tools, precision measurement, basic mechanics, fasteners, plumbing, and rigging equipment. Instruction is provided through lectures, demonstrations, videos, and hands-on projects.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Identify hand tools, power tools, and their uses.

Safely use hand tools or power tools during assembly and mechanical operations.

The use of calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators used for precision measurement.

Identify the different types of fasteners, threaded and non-threaded and their uses.

Drill and tap holes in metal using a hand drill, drill press, and selecting the proper drill and tap size.

Measure, cut, ream, thread and assemble pipe to meet specifications from a schematic drawing.

Define machine rigging and the safe use of ropes, chains, slings, jacks, hoists, and cranes as used in moving machinery or equipment.
