Course Description:
This course provides the student with a basic knowledge of electrical theories and concepts needed in the HVAC field.  

  

Student Learning Outcomes:
Safety  

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of HVAC related safety issues  

Electrical Theory  

  1. Discuss AC and DC circuits  

  1. Solving Ohm’s law problems  

  1. Discuss electromagnetism as used in the HVAC field.  

Test equipment  

  1. Discuss the types of meters used in electrical testing  

  1. Measure voltage, current, and resistance.  

  1. Practice testing other electrical measurements.  

Wiring Diagrams  

  1. Show a working knowledge of reading wiring diagrams.  

  1. Identify electrical components and their symbol found on HVAC wiring diagrams  

  1. Identify different types of circuits used in the HVAC field.  

Electrical distribution  

  1. Discuss electrical power generation  

  1. Discuss electrical power distribution  

  1. Explain the purpose and operation of transformers
