Course Description: Provides instruction in basic electronic devices, testing those devices and electronic circuits. Instruction is provided through lecture, videos, worksheets, demonstration and hands-on exercises.
Student Learning Outcomes: Course Competencies:
- Describe diode operation.
- Explain current limiting resistor.
- Design a circuit with LED.
- Test a diode with an ohm meter.
- Describe operation of an SCR in an AC circuit and a DC circuit.
- Test an SCR with an ohm meter.
- Describe a PNP and a NPN transistor operation.
- Test a PNP and a NPN transistor with an ohm meter.
- Design and calculate voltages for a half-wave rectifier.
- Design and calculate voltages for a full-wave rectifier.
- Design and calculate voltages for a full-wave bridge rectifier.
- Design and calculate voltages for a three phase half-wave rectifier.
- Design and calculate voltages for a three phase full-wave rectifier.
- Identify an IGBT.
- Describe input, filter and output sections of a VFD.
