Course Description:
Provides instruction in basic electronic devices, testing those devices and electronic circuits. Instruction is provided through lecture, videos, worksheets, demonstration and hands-on exercises.

  1. Describe diode operation.
  2. Explain current limiting resistor.
  3. Design a circuit with LED.
  4. Test a diode with an ohm meter.
  5. Describe operation of an SCR in an AC circuit and a DC circuit.
  6. Test an SCR with an ohm meter.
  7. Describe a PNP and a NPN transistor operation.
  8. Test a PNP and a NPN transistor with an ohm meter.
  9. Design and calculate voltages for a half-wave rectifier.
  10. Design and calculate voltages for a full-wave rectifier.
  11. Design and calculate voltages for a full-wave bridge rectifier.
  12. Design and calculate voltages for a three phase half-wave rectifier.
  13. Design and calculate voltages for a three phase full-wave rectifier.
  14. Identify an IGBT.
  15. Describe input, filter and output sections of a VFD.
