IMG 1011 - Safety and Orientation



Clock Hours: 48

Prerequisites: IMG 0001 - Worker Characteristic  

Course Description:
Introduce students to the maintenance shop, computer lab, and classroom. Acquaint students with emergency egress routes, tornado and lock-down procedures, and the location of fire extinguishers, SDS sheets, eye wash station, first aid kit, and lockout/tag out devices. Review shop safety rules, work ethics policy, mission statement, and grading procedures. Enable students to be safety oriented to avoid unnecessary accidents and bodily harm when working with electrical equipment and machinery.

Student Learning Outcomes:
 

  1. Comply with federal, state, and local safety legal requirements, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), TENN (TOSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  2. Maintain a safe working environment.
  3. Explain safe working practices around electrical hazards.
  4. Identify emergency first aid procedures.
  5. Demonstrate the use of a fire extinguisher.
  6. Identify the types of fires and the methods used to extinguish them.
  7. Identify personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  8. Demonstrate lifting and carrying techniques.
  9. Identify types of ladders
