IMG 2032 - Welding Safety and Virtual Welding

Course Description:
This course teaches students how to set up and operate welding and cutting equipment, including practice with a virtual welder. It covers the essential components of preparing a weld and executing various welding techniques, specifically focusing on arc, MIG, and TIG welding. Students learn the four basic steps for each welding type: striking the arc, moving the arc to create a bead, shaping the weld bead, and cleaning the weld between passes. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of welding processes and techniques. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Be able to list at least seven hazards that exist in the welding shop. 

  1. Identify the clothing items that should be worn when welding or cutting  

  1. Explain the various causes of fire hazards 

  1. Describe the danger of fumes and airborne contaminants to the welding and the precautions that provide respiratory protection 

  1.  Cite at least five general rules to follow when storing compressed gases 

  1. Arc welding components 

  1. Explaining how to strike an arc 

  1. Striking an arc 

  1. Setup a mig welder properly 

  1. Set up a tig welder properly 

  1. Run a bead on the arc, mig, and tig welding 

  1. Run a T-joint weld
