IMM 1040 - Hydraulics
Clock Hours: 120
Delivery Mode on-ground
Course Description: This course is designed to give students a basic explanation and description of hydraulic applications and principles through the use of both textbook and hands-on training.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define hydraulics, hydrostatics, and hydrodynamics
- Define pressure and compare the differences between atmospheric, gauge, and absolute pressure.
- Define head pressure, lift, and total column, and explain the static and dynamic forms of each.
- List and explain two factors that affect fluid flow.
- Define volume, capacity, velocity, flow, and speed, and explain how each is measured.
- Explain mechanical advantage, and demonstrate its application in a hydraulic system.
- Identify the three basic types of hydraulic diagrams.
- List the six essential elements of a hydraulic circuit.
- Identify four main functions of a reservoir.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic piping
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic pumps and explain how flow rate is used in hydraulic systems.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic pressure control valves.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic directional control valves.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic flow control valves.
- List the function and means of shifting a directional control valve.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic actuators.
- Identify the function and types of hydraulic accumulators.
