MDA 1040 - Computer Applications

Prerequisites: Set up a student account at typing.com with your name and a password Computer/Operating System with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or 10.  Your own personal computer as this course is done primarily at home.  

Course Description:
In this course, students will acquire basic skills for computer keyboarding for preparation for work in a medical office setting.  Students will learn proper keyboarding technique while typing alphabetic and numeric characters.  Students will complete activities online, outside the classroom, where drills will facilitate learning the keyboard while developing speed and accuracy.   

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Students with little or no typing experience will learn the basics of computer keyboarding through class instruction and lessons presented with software emphasizing keyboard memorization via the touch typing method.
  2. Class instructions consist of daily keyboard assignments using speed development exercises and error analysis feedback to enhance speed and accuracy.
  3. Students are provided with a syllabus and course outline listing text and materials needed for completing the course along with a grading scale for assignments.
  4. Students will be performing and completing assigned tasks on their own time, away from the classroom as outlined by the instructor.
  5. Timed writings will take place in the classroom each Friday, at the beginning of class.
