PFP 2031 - Introduction to Plumbing Codes

Course Description:
Plumbers must understand drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems to properly design and maintain sanitary drainage - from interior pipes to buried drains and public sewers. This essential knowledge of system components and local plumbing codes is covered in the Introduction to Plumbing Codes class to prevent system malfunctions. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to do the following:

Explain the requirements for sizing of drains and vents. 

Identify the types of traps. 

Identify the parts of traps. 

Describe the ways traps can lose their seal. 

Describe the materials used in making DWV fittings. 

Identify the types of DWV fittings and their requirements. 

Explain the importance of grade. 

Describe the construction of sewer and waste treatment facilities. 

Identify the health concerns associated with DWV systems. 

Explain how plumbing codes affect the construction of DWV systems. 

Describe the model and local plumbing codes and their purposes. 

Describe the ICC model plumbing code. 

Describe the IAPMO model plumbing code. 

Explain model code standards. 

Explain how model codes are revised and adopted. 

Explain typical code changes.
