Course Description: This course is a foundation computer literacy course that will familiarize students with all the essential terminology and basic concepts of computers. Computer Applications covers the basic subjects needed for an understanding of computing, including knowledge and use of computer hardware, software, and operating systems.

- Understand Computing Fundamentals
- Learn how to access the features and functions of operating systems
- Be able to identify different connectors and ports of a computer
- Examine the different types of computers and their hardware
- Define service subscription and contract requirements regarding telephone, data, and cellular networks
- Learn how to configure and use voice mail
- Be able to manage mobile data usage
- Use an operating system to find, move, open, and manage files
- Be able to navigate a directory
- Share files with other users using safe computer practices
- Install and configure software and various operating systems
- Be able to use messaging applications
- Create and use cloud accounts
- Identify the need for security and describe risks presented by viruses, malware, hijacking browsers, social engineering, and phishing
- Understand how to use anti-virus software
- Learn basic troubleshooting techniques
- List the types of equipment that can be categorized as “peripheral devices”
- Describe the difference between operating system software and application software
- Demonstrate that you can use a search engine to locate information on the Web.
- Know how the e-mail system works
