HMGT 1050 - Technology in the Hospitality Industry
Credit hours: 3
Course Description: This course will introduce students to hospitality information systems, including property and restaurant management systems, meeting management, club management, and communication networks.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the common technology systems used in hospitality operations.
- Be able identify and describe features of the three major components necessary for a complete computer system-input/output devices, a central processing unit, and external storage
- Students will be able to explain the functions of common Property Management Systems including point-of-sales systems, energy management systems, and technology systems used in property
- Display an understanding of the functions and use of food and beverage management applications, including those concerning recipe and menu management, sales analysis, and pre/post costing. We will also examine the various threats to technology systems and the security precautions that should be taken to keep those systems safe.
